Dale & Debbie, Royal Easter Show 2009
| My name is Debbie and I own Happylea Kennel and live in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW. Originally I had the kennel in partnership with my son Dale, but Dale now has his own prefix and will be breeding German Shepherds. When I became interested in showing dogs I was going to start with a Labrador and had an order in for a puppy. Unfortunately the bitch did not take and by this time I was becoming very keen to show, when a friend of mine at Obedience told me she had a litter of Weimaraner puppies due and I could purchase one. On the 30/10/80 “Trilby Gaiety Girl – Gai “was born and so the start of my affair with Weimaraners began. My next dog was “Griswold Fielda – Field” was a wedding present from my husband and in 1982 I applied for a prefix so that I could begin breeding. As I like doing crosswords I arrived with the name “HAPPYLEA” from the 2 dogs names. GAI - HAPPY, FIELD – LEA and with that my kennel began. When I first saw a Weimaraner longhair I fell in love with them and knew that eventually I wanted to breed them. I had some friends who had a longhair and I asked if I could use him over my bitch, which I did and since then I have concentrated on mainly showing and breeding the longhairs. Dale came along into our family in 1985. For many years he came to dogs shows, competed in Junior Handlers and always helped with the dogs. Over time Dale and I have become Junior Handler Judges which has seen Dale go to New Zealand to judge and we have both judged at Sydney Royal Easter Show. I am also a steward and officiate at many shows and have even been privileged to steward Junior Handlers at Sydney Royal. As Dale grew older he took a more active role in showing our Weimaraner’s as well as gaining an interest in German Shepherds. He has since titled 2 GSD’s, My youngest son Kurt in 2010 obtained his 1st Longhair Kadma Rebel Rouser - "Travis" from Carol Thompson at KADMA KENNELS in Queensland and is now showing him. Kurt to has become a Junior Handler Judge. This is just a brief overview of how my kennel was started, who we are and some of the things we have done. I hope you will now continue into the site and see our beautiful dogs. Debbie, Dale and Kurt |
